Active and Safe Routes to School

Active & Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) is a comprehensive community-based program that supports active transportation initiatives for the daily trip to school. Active transportation is walking, biking, skating or using other physical ways of getting around instead of using a car or motorized vehicle.

The ASRTS web site provides resources, tools, information and links for schools and communities to create their own unique Active & Safe Routes to School program.

ASRTS walking programs include:

  • International Walk to School Month
  • Spring into Spring
  • The IWalk Club
  • Walk/Wheel on Wednesday’s
  • School Safety Zone
  • No Idling at School
  • The Walking School Bus
  • Classroom Mapping
  • Ideas for High Schools
